08_rückenfigur

WHAT?
'Rückenfigur' in Istanbul.
Series of photographs taken near the water of the bosphorus and golden horn where I look at people from behind, looking over the water. The word 'rückenfigur' is used very often in combination with the German painter Caspar David Friedrich whose paintings commonly employed the 'rückenfigur'; a person seen from behind, contemplating the view. The viewer is encouraged to place himself in the position of the 'rückenfigur', by which means he experiences the sublime potential of nature, understanding that the scene is as perceived and idealised by a human.
